can u fix it?

ok
so am a girl,right?
born with a set of breasts and a vagina
did i choose that? no
did i walk into "radwan el3ogel" and got myself an entire set of a "woman-pod"
no but for as long as i remember i have been prosecuted and punished for being a female
am either dressed too tight or too short or too long or too fashionable or too non fashionble
am either too slutty or too conservative it's ok for some men to flash me their organs down the street where am supposed to either scream from horror or go down on them (either reaction usually satsifies the pervert by the way)
it's normal for a guy to stare at my body or comment in the usual "2ba7a" language whenever am walking down the street no matter what am wearing or what am doing
and do u even want me to start on the whole "public transportation/public offices/or police station treatment" coz trust me i have been almost traumatized one when i had to get into "mogam3 elt7rir"to get my passport done and had to tolerate and fight over being groped or touched by almost every man on the premsis (and those men who are left usually give the once over look then comment about the slutty bitch who is not "mo7agaba" and had the odacity to be wearing pants)
that was border line ok and was starting to be the norm for me and all the women i know coz let's face it .... nothing is going to happen if u scream at the pervert and dont u dare think about taking it up to the freaking authorities coz in egypt if a girl goes to file a harrasment report she ends up being molested or raped coz she dared to walk into the male dominated sadism prone police station.
what's new is "broad day light" as in being groped and touched and sripped naked in broad day light on the street?
i am too disgusted to say more
all i remember is what a police general said 10 years ago when a girl got raped in a quiet street in maadi(my hood)
he said"u cant really blame the police or the perp ,i mean, she WAS going home at 8 pm and was wearing jewelry"
if we are in a country that doesnt provide security and blames the victim for being a victim, can u protest against anything?
they say u cant fix it if it aint broken ,can u fix it if it's butchered, neutered, and clinically dead?

I love what you wrote. I know exactly what you are referring to. And I know what else you wish to add yet realise it cannot just be shared with the rest of the cyber world! I know all of this. They say it is about time we have done something about this. But what is it to be done in a country that has disarmed women or any citizen in general from every right to be alive and present in the society! A country that has even prohibited the possession of the only simple way girls could use to _pause_ a horrific experience for a few minutes till she gets help, using those pepper sprays, and considered all OC Sprays as an offensive weapon, classifying possessing on of these as a felony!

No I cannot fix this, honestly, not any more! :S

No matter what, I can never say I can "feel" the horrible things that females face in the Arab world. What you are saying is sadly VERY true. We live in a "Male Stronghold" and to be more exact, in a "Prehistorique Male Stronghold". And being a male and NOT supporting such world would criminilize you as much as all the other females.

Many times I've been into huge debates, wondering why we order women to cover-up instead of asking the men to move their damn eyes away! How come one can pretend to be so religious, and faith is sitting in his heart and soul, and yet he can't resist staring at females, not just staring, but actually doing all the awful disgraceful behavior that have become a "trademark" of a typical male.

It has to do with the society as a whole, with the way young people are brought up, with all the "don't do this, don't say that, don't discuss this or that, 3eib, 7aram,....." and the rest of our stupid meaningless traditions that have hold our society ages behind.

But you know what, this can fixed! maybe NOT that easily, but it can be fixed. It is up to US, yes us who believe that this is wrong, that this is NOT right, to act and say NO, and teach that to our friends, families, and most importantly, our kids. We have to understand that it is nurture that brought up such society, and it is NURTURE that will bring our societies back on teh right track.

"Yacoubian Building" is a true example of what I'm talking about. We have to scream, and let people FACE the ugly truth. We can do this. If you, me and all of us who believe this is WRONG stood together and said NO, we can make a change, we can make a change.

I always realized there was an ongoing and serious aggression and humiliation against females in this country, but I never realized the broadness of the aggression. Opening up is definitly going to increase awareness and put into light one of the darkest issues besieging us today, female harassment. I totally appreciate your efforts, and advise you to copy other stories from other women who don't have web access in order to increase awareness.

You cannot imagine the amount of respect that I have for every girl has the courage to say what you said. I know if I was in your position I would not be strong enough speak out.

Know that you are making a difference and that there are people who will stand behind you.

I'd say we all walk around with stun-guns & swiss-knives..
if there aint no law to protect us, then I guess its the law of nature now huh?..

Your stories touched me a lot.

I do not know if it is appropriate to say this, but I fear for you, as much as anyone from your part of the world who dares to speck out.

I'm sorry that all these are happening so often at your side...
